Volcano (Pilot Mountains) (Triassic of the United States)

Where: Mineral County, Nevada (38.4° N, 118.0° W: paleocoordinates 15.1° N, 54.2° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

When: Luning Formation, Lacian (221.5 - 215.6 Ma)

• Age given as "Upper Muschelkalk" but Luning Formation is only Triassic unit exposed in vicinity. If the species is the same as the Proarcestes sp. collected by Kristan-Tollmann & Tollmann (1983) in Dunlap Canyon, it suggests a Lacian age (kerri zone) as stated by those authors.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; lithified limestone

Size class: macrofossils

Collected by J.D. Whitney; reposited in the MCZ
